Ants
Ants are social insects that live in large colonies, often nesting outdoors in soil, under paving, or in wall cavities. They enter homes in search of food, following scent trails that can bring hundreds of ants into kitchens and food storage areas.
The black garden ant is the most common species found in UK homes. While they do not pose a significant health risk, they can contaminate food and become a persistent nuisance during warmer months.
Effective control requires locating and treating the nest where possible, rather than only dealing with the ants visible indoors. Without addressing the source, ants will continue to return along established trails.
Treatment
The appropriate treatment for ants depends on the species involved. For the common garden ant (Lasius niger), we typically use a water-based insecticide spray to target active trails and entry points. For other ant species, we assess and offer different control options tailored to their biology and habits, ensuring the most effective solution for each situation.
